André Berger,
Mathematics/Meteorology

 

André Berger is licencié en sciences mathématiques from the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL), MSc in Meteorology from the Massachusettes Institute of Technology and DSc from UCL. He is currently Professor at the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics Georges Lemaître, UCL, Belgium. Dr Berger was President of the European Geophysical Society between 2000 and 2002. He has been awarded several titles and prizes for his outstanding research on meteorology and climate change, amongst which the prestigious European Latsis Prize (2001) for contributions to the understanding of the Ice Age climate. Professor Berger was President of the Comité national belge de Géodésie et de Géophysique from 2000 to 2003. He was chairman of NATO Scientific Panels, advisor to companies and agencies, universities, research councils and academies in Belgium and at the European level. He is a member of the Academies of Science of France, Belgium and the Netherlands and associate member of the Royal Astronomical Society. Dr Berger is Commandeur de l’Ordre de la Couronne (1997), Officier de l’Ordre de Léopold (1989) and was made Chevalier in 1996.
